Manuel Ugarte Confirms United Squad Stands Behind Amorim After Historic Low

Despite a deeply disappointing Premier League campaign, Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte insists the dressing room remains fully behind manager Rúben Amorim. The Uruguayan international says players are “motivated” to turn things around under the Portuguese coach, who endured a turbulent debut season at Old Trafford.

United’s Worst-Ever Premier League Finish Under Amorim

Rúben Amorim took over Manchester United midway through last season, arriving in November with high expectations. However, his tenure got off to a rocky start. United secured just seven wins in 27 league games under his leadership, ending the season in a dismal 15th place—the club’s lowest finish since the Premier League began.

The misery was compounded in Europe. After failing to qualify for the Champions League through domestic standings, United reached the Europa League final only to fall 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur, missing another route into top-tier European competition.

Ugarte: “We Believe in What the Coach Wants”

Speaking to British media ahead of United’s preseason tour in the U.S., Manuel Ugarte stressed that the players remain committed to Amorim’s vision.

“We have to improve things,” Ugarte admitted. “But we are all very motivated, because we believe in the coach, we believe in what he wants, and that is very important.”

Having previously worked with Amorim at Sporting CP, Ugarte understands the manager’s system and values. He noted that while last season involved significant tactical and personnel changes, he expects stronger chemistry and results going forward.

“You have to have responsibilities when you play for United. Sometimes the connections take time. I already know the league, the rivals, which is important,” Ugarte added.

Preseason Tour and a Fresh Start on the Horizon

United’s road to redemption begins with a trio of preseason friendlies. The team faces Bournemouth in Chicago on Wednesday, then meets Everton in Atlanta on Sunday. They’ll wrap up preparations with a home match against Fiorentina at Old Trafford on August 9.

Their Premier League campaign kicks off with a high-stakes opener against Arsenal on August 17—a fixture that will offer an early test of United’s progress under Amorim.
