Napoli Closing in on €35m Deal for 6'7" Striker Lorenzo Lucca Following Kevin De Bruyne Addition

Napoli are on the verge of signing Lorenzo Lucca for €35m after Kevin De Bruyne’s arrival, strengthening their squad in hopes of defending their Serie A title.

Napoli are set to complete the signing of Lorenzo Lucca, the towering Udinese striker, in a €35 million (£30.5m/$41m) deal, further strengthening their squad following the arrival of Kevin De Bruyne.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Napoli are finalizing a deal for Lorenzo Lucca, with the transaction structured as a loan deal for €9 million, followed by a mandatory purchase option of €26 million (£22.5m/$30m), which could rise with performance-based bonuses. The 24-year-old striker had an impressive 2024-25 season at Udinese, netting 14 goals and providing two assists. His physical presence, standing at an impressive 6’7″, combined with his strength, intelligence, and finishing ability, made him a standout target for clubs across Europe.

While Napoli originally had their sights set on Liverpool‘s Darwin Nunez, who showed interest in a move to Italy, Liverpool rejected the proposed €55 million (£48m/$64m) bid. With Nunez no longer in their sights, Napoli shifted focus to Lucca, who offers a powerful aerial threat and a natural target man for their attacking play. The signing of De Bruyne earlier this summer, alongside Lucca, signals Napoli’s ambition to challenge not just domestically but in Europe as well.

Kevin De Bruyne completed his much-anticipated switch to Napoli on June 11, signing a two-year deal. The Belgian playmaker has already joined the squad for pre-season and shared a light-hearted post on social media: “First day of school! 💙.” The arrival of De Bruyne, coupled with Lucca’s imminent signing, promises to make Napoli a more formidable force this season.

Napoli are aiming to defend their Serie A crown, a challenge they have historically struggled with. Their fourth Scudetto title was a significant achievement, but retaining it will be an even more daunting task. With the creative brilliance of De Bruyne in the midfield and the physical presence of Lucca up front, Napoli fans have plenty of reasons to be optimistic heading into the new campaign. The club will open their 2025-26 Serie A season on August 23 against Sassuolo.
