Oliver Glasner has emerged as a serious contender to take over at Manchester United, with reports suggesting the Crystal Palace boss has turned down a new contract at Selhurst Park amid growing uncertainty surrounding Ruben Amorim’s future at Old Trafford. As United’s struggles continue, Glasner appears to be positioning himself for the Premier League’s most high-profile job.

Glasner’s Ambition Aligns with United’s Managerial Uncertainty
Manchester United’s rough start to the season under Ruben Amorim has sparked internal concerns and external speculation. Following a dismal 15th-place finish last season and a Europa League final loss to Tottenham, United now sit 14th after six games in the new campaign. The pressure is mounting on Amorim, whose tactical decisions and team selections have drawn criticism.

INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, overseeing football operations at the club, are reportedly considering alternatives should Amorim fail to turn the tide and secure European qualification this term.

Crystal Palace Boss Turns Down New Deal Amid United Interest
According to fresh reports from a well-sourced X (formerly Twitter) account managed by multiple senior journalists, Glasner has declined a recent contract extension from Crystal Palace. The reason? A clear interest in stepping into the managerial hot seat at Old Trafford if it becomes available.

“Glasner has his eyes firmly set on Manchester United,” the account revealed, adding that it would take an “extraordinary contract” with significant release clauses to convince him to stay at Palace.

Why Glasner Is on United’s Radar
Respected journalist Ben Jacobs has further fueled speculation, claiming Glasner would accept the United role “in a heartbeat” if approached. The Austrian manager is highly rated for his tactical acumen and success under financial constraints—qualities United may find appealing amid ongoing squad chemistry issues.

While Glasner employs a system similar to Amorim’s, insiders believe his in-game management and man-management skills could offer the Red Devils a much-needed edge. His ability to build cohesion at Crystal Palace has not gone unnoticed, especially given United’s ongoing struggle to get the best out of their talented but disjointed squad.

A Growing List of Potential Successors
Glasner isn’t the only name linked to a potential vacancy at Manchester United. Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler, Fulham’s Marco Silva, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, and even England boss Gareth Southgate have been mentioned as candidates should Amorim exit.

However, Glasner’s Premier League experience and proven ability to overachieve with limited resources may give him an edge, particularly if United opt for a pragmatic and ready-made solution.

What’s Next for United and Glasner?
With mounting pressure on Amorim and United’s season hanging in the balance, the managerial landscape could shift rapidly. Glasner’s decision to reject Palace’s offer is a clear sign of ambition—and possibly, anticipation. Unless Palace return with a significantly improved deal, the Austrian could soon be preparing for life at Old Trafford.
