Pep Guardiola praises new signing Tijjani Reijnders after the Dutch midfielder scores and assists in Manchester City’s dominant 4-0 victory against Wolves.
City’s Dominant Performance
Pep Guardiola has described Tijjani Reijnders as an “incredible” addition to Manchester City, following the midfielder’s stellar performance in their 4-0 thrashing of Wolves on Saturday in the Premier League. Reijnders, who joined City from AC Milan during the summer, made an immediate impact with a goal and an assist.
Guardiola’s Praise for Reijnders
After the dominant win, Guardiola was quick to highlight the Dutch international’s contribution and potential. Speaking to BBC Sport, Guardiola said:
“Not just today, in Palermo (a 3-0 pre-season win) he played really good. He is a typical player we need in the Premier League. He is an incredible, big signing for us. His work ethic, a holding midfielder occupies a lot of spaces and then after the control with the ball and his movements. And then he is trying to get in behind and score – really pleased.”
Reijnders’ Impact and City’s Rebuild
Reijnders’ all-around display in the Premier League opener was seen as a breath of fresh air for City, especially after a disappointing 2024-25 season where they finished below expectations. His ability to control the midfield and contribute to attacking play is something that was lacking for City last year. While it’s still early days in their rebuild, Guardiola and fans alike will be hoping that Reijnders’ influence continues to grow.
Looking Ahead
City’s next challenge comes against Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium next Saturday, where Guardiola will look to get revenge after last season’s shock 4-0 loss to Spurs at home. Reijnders will play a key role as City look to build on their strong start.
