According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have agreed a deal worth over £50 million (including add-ons) to sign the 23-year-old England international. The green light from Chelsea came after personal terms were finalised earlier in the week, with Madueke poised to sign a five-year deal at the Emirates.
Romano’s “Here we go” announcement on Thursday night made it all but official. And while Madueke’s versatility fits Arteta’s tactical demands—comfortable on either flank and offering much-needed rotation for Bukayo Saka—the move has sparked unrest among the fanbase.

Raheem Sterling arrived on loan last summer and failed to make a lasting impact. Add to that Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was the first arrival of this transfer window, and the optics are hard to ignore.

Still, the price tag is hefty. Madueke’s arrival doesn’t appear to spell the end of Arsenal’s attacking business. Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze remains on the club’s shortlist, though pulling off another marquee deal in the same window would be financially ambitious. More pressing, though, is the club’s pursuit of a centre-forward, with Viktor Gyökeres still Arteta’s top target.
