Christian Pulisic’s ‘epic run’ earns Herculez Gomez’s praise as USMNT star thrives at AC Milan

Former USMNT forward Herculez Gomez says Christian Pulisic has finally reached the level many predicted for him, hailing the Milan winger’s remarkable form in Serie A and calling his decision to skip the Gold Cup a masterstroke.

Christian Pulisic’s career has been defined by moments of brilliance, frustrating setbacks, and constant debate over whether he could ever truly fulfill his immense potential. Now, according to former U.S. international Herculez Gomez, that debate may finally be over.

Speaking on the Futbol Americas podcast, Gomez described Pulisic’s rise in Serie A with AC Milan as nothing short of “epic,” praising both his consistency and productivity in Italy.

“Christian Pulisic is on an epic run that he’s never been on,” Gomez said. “Since he got to Italy, 46 goal contributions — more than any other player in Serie A. More than Lautaro Martinez, who was a Ballon d’Or candidate. That tells you everything. This is a league known for its tactical difficulty, and he’s thriving in it, no matter the coach or the system.”

Milan the perfect fit

Pulisic arrived at Milan after an injury-hit stint at Chelsea that never quite delivered on its early promise. At Borussia Dortmund, he had shown flashes of brilliance, particularly in the Champions League against the likes of Real Madrid. At Chelsea, he enjoyed memorable spells — most notably during their run to the 2021 Champions League title — but consistency always eluded him.

Milan has provided the stability and role he needed. Now in his third season in Italy, Pulisic has become one of the most dangerous attackers in the league. So far this campaign, he has contributed to eight goals in just seven matches, including six in Serie A.

“He is now who many thought he could be,” Gomez added. “If you’re asking if Christian Pulisic is world-class, here’s the evidence. It’s not hype, it’s what he’s doing in Serie A right now.”

Controversial decision vindicated

Pulisic also made headlines in the summer when he chose to skip the CONCACAF Gold Cup, a decision criticized by some fans at the time. Gomez argued that the player’s current form vindicates that call.

“He decided the best thing was to take a break because his body needed it,” Gomez said. “Most people didn’t know he had a hip issue. By resting, he’s proving that decision was the right one for his health and career.”

A timely renaissance

For AC Milan, Pulisic’s resurgence couldn’t come at a better moment. The Rossoneri are pushing to reclaim dominance in Serie A and make a deep Champions League run, with Pulisic playing a central role in both.

For the USMNT, his club form is an encouraging sign ahead of crucial World Cup qualifiers and international tournaments. A healthy, in-form Pulisic has always been seen as the key to American success on the biggest stage.

With Juventus next on the schedule before the October international break, Pulisic has the chance to extend his dazzling run — and keep making the case that he has finally become the world-class player many always believed he could be.
