Former USMNT forward Herculez Gomez says Christian Pulisic has finally reached the level many predicted for him, hailing the Milan winger’s remarkable form in Serie A and calling his decision to skip the Gold Cup a masterstroke.

Milan the perfect fit
Pulisic arrived at Milan after an injury-hit stint at Chelsea that never quite delivered on its early promise. At Borussia Dortmund, he had shown flashes of brilliance, particularly in the Champions League against the likes of Real Madrid. At Chelsea, he enjoyed memorable spells — most notably during their run to the 2021 Champions League title — but consistency always eluded him.

“He is now who many thought he could be,” Gomez added. “If you’re asking if Christian Pulisic is world-class, here’s the evidence. It’s not hype, it’s what he’s doing in Serie A right now.”
Controversial decision vindicated
Pulisic also made headlines in the summer when he chose to skip the CONCACAF Gold Cup, a decision criticized by some fans at the time. Gomez argued that the player’s current form vindicates that call.
“He decided the best thing was to take a break because his body needed it,” Gomez said. “Most people didn’t know he had a hip issue. By resting, he’s proving that decision was the right one for his health and career.”

For AC Milan, Pulisic’s resurgence couldn’t come at a better moment. The Rossoneri are pushing to reclaim dominance in Serie A and make a deep Champions League run, with Pulisic playing a central role in both.
